Internship Scholarship at Hampden-Sydney College

The Ferguson Career Center fully supports its students who engage in experiential learning activities through internships, volunteerism, summer research, and job shadow opportunities. We offer internship scholarships for current students who have obtained summer experiential learning opportunities, but may not otherwise be able to participate due to financial constraints.

General Eligibility Requirements

  • All undergraduate students are eligible to apply for a scholarship, however some scholarships may have additional requirements.
  • All applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher, a confirmed internship experience, and demonstrate financial need.
  • All awards will be based on the anticipated educational and professional value of the internship, the student's self-assessment and skill development, expenses directly related to the internship, and level of compensation.
  • Students seeking financial assistance for summer coursework will not be considered (i.e. May Term or study abroad).
  • All awards will be paid prior to commencing the internship, and they are taxable.

Scholarship amounts vary based on each individual application and the discretion of the awards committee.

Application Instructions

Completed applications include:
  1. A current resume
  2. A statement, not exceeding one-page, explaining your internship duties, educational benefit of the experience as it relates to your career plans, and the usefulness of receiving the scholarship (submitted in Handshake as "Cover Letter")
  3. The Internship Scholarship Application
  4. Anticipated Cost Worksheet
  5. Proof of employment from your internship site supervisor including your job/internship title, company name and employment dates (a printed email will suffice)

Application deadlines

Application materials must be submitted to the Career Center via Handshake by 5 PM, April 1, 2019.
Late or incomplete application packets will not be accepted.

Review and Award Process

An awards committee will thoroughly review each application packet and may conduct brief interviews with select applicants. Applicants will be notified of the committee's decision.
